Step inside an old building and you enter another world. The very stones speak — if you know how to listen. From soaring arches to humble doorways, medieval buildings are layered with stories, secrets and centuries of human endeavour, waiting to be decoded by those curious enough to look.
But where do you begin? That's where this Neighbourhood Workshop comes in. Architectural Historian David Evans will guide you through the key medieval styles, equipping you with the tools to unravel the mysteries hidden in plain sight. Because once you know what you're looking for, everything changes — a quirky window, an unusual arch, a subtle shift in stonework suddenly reveals a whole new chapter of a building's history.
And the treasures don't stop there. Fonts, lecterns, pulpits, rood screens, carved bench-ends, cheeky misericords — these buildings are full of surprises at every turn, each one a story yet to be told.
Whether you're a complete newcomer to the subject or simply want to sharpen your eye, David's expertise will leave you looking at old buildings — and the world around you — in an entirely new light.
