Step into the vibrant, unpredictable world of street photography with this engaging one-day course that explores how photographers have captured everyday life across the 20th and 21st centuries. Through a rich selection of images, you’ll discover the many styles, approaches, and creative voices that define street photography — from candid human moments to bold graphic compositions and fleeting scenes that tell powerful stories about life on the street.
Led by Peter Carter ARPS, DipHE (Photography), the day is designed to be accessible, thought-provoking, and enjoyable for everyone. You don’t need to be a photographer to take part — this course is just as rewarding for anyone who enjoys looking at images, is curious about visual culture, or wants to better understand how photographs shape the way we see the world. Of course, photographers are very welcome too.
For those who do make photographs, we’ll explore practical ideas around timing, composition, light, gesture, and storytelling that you can bring into your own practice. For everyone else, the course offers a fascinating insight into how street photographs are made, why they work, and what they reveal about the societies and moments they capture.
Whether you come to learn, to look, or simply to be inspired, expect a day full of engaging discussion, fresh perspectives, and a deeper appreciation of the extraordinary found in everyday life.
Our home for the day will be the wonderful Holbrook Manor, a graceful Georgian house set in the peaceful Somerset countryside near Wincanton. Effortlessly combining heritage, comfort, and tranquillity, you’ll immediately feel at home. With a 2-course lunch included and refreshments at breaktimes prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, we’ve certainly got your appetite for both delicious food and learning covered!
