A Masterpiece on your Mantelpiece: Images on Christmas Cards

  • Pennard House Shepton Mallet, England, BA4 6TP United Kingdom (map)

Join us in the stunning surroundings of Pennard House for a delicious 2-course lunch prepared using the very best local, seasonal ingredients. After lunch, we’ll be joined by art historian Richard Kay for a lecture about the often overlooked artwork that appears in many of our houses around this time of year - that of the humble Christmas card.

As Christmas approaches, this talk - illustrated throughout with images used on Christmas cards - will help you to understand a little better why certain subjects are better suited than others to Christmas cards. It gives a glimpse into just how much thought goes into deciding which pictures ‘work’ on Christmas cards - and which ones do not. Over 500 years of art in just one seasonal hour!

This lecture is suitable for all.
