Join us in the stunning surroundings of Haselbury Mill for a delicious 2-course lunch prepared using the very best local, seasonal ingredients before we take in what promises to be a truly compelling story surrounding one of the world’s most famous artworks.
‘Whistler’s Mother’ is a curiously distinctive image in our minds. Indeed, in America, it has become almost the defining portrayal of motherhood even if many Americans never get to see the picture for themselves. How did this rather severe and seemingly prosaic study of a lady seated in profile come to embody so many of our own expectations of a refined maternal spirit? Why did it end up in France at all – and how did it get there? All will be revealed by Richard Kay in this fascinating Neighbourhood Lecture!
This lecture is suitable for all.
